With the economy slowly slugging forward, it seems we see some gains and some setbacks almost every week. We’re still waiting for the expected gasoline price reductions(!). So it was great news this week to hear that the United Way of Monterey County surpassed its 2010-2011 goal and surpassed last year’s campaign results, for a total of $3,550,000 in contributions this year.
The United Way of Santa Cruz County had similar success. They surpassed their goal of $1 million and were almost even with last year.
“Live United” is the theme of the United Way. By “living united” we can band together and positively impact worthy social service organizations that in many cases do not have the means to even get the word out to ask for your individual support. The United Way of Monterey County and the United Way of Santa Cruz County together financially support over 70 Central Coast non-profit organizations.
If you donated to the United Way campaign this year: thank you. If you didn’t, we hope that for this fall’s campaign you’ll consider sharing a small portion of what you have with those who have less. The United Way let’s us all pool our resources to reach out to charitable agencies that we may or may not be aware of, to help people we probably will never know. We can’t think of a better way to gain the best value for your charity dollars.
