Anna Hasselblad (They/She) is the Senior Director of Policy for United Ways of California, having joined the team in 2017. Anna primarily focuses on state and federal policy regarding economic mobility, equity-based systems change, and whole-child, whole-family services. Anna has 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector.

Prior, Anna was the Director of Public Policy for the Steinberg Institute, where they focused on advancing mental health policy. Previously, Anna was the Deputy & Policy Director for California Coverage & Health Initiatives where they advocated on behalf of community-based organizations to ensure affordable health coverage and access to care for all. Anna also worked on reproductive health policy and quality improvement initiatives at the American Congress of Ob/Gyns District IX. Additionally, Anna dealt with constituent concerns in Senate President Steinberg’s District Office, before assisting with research and proposal development for the Select Committee on Autism Related Disorders.

Before Anna delved into policy, they were a direct service provider for over 5 years with children and families experiencing behavioral health crises, overseeing teams that supported integrated services in a variety of residential, educational, and community settings.

Anna has lived experience as someone who has been eligible for public benefits and who struggled to make ends meet as an adult, and is a proud queer person. Anna is also keenly aware of how privilege has been woven into their experiences and seeks to support collective movement building and showing up authentically.

Anna is based in Sacramento, California and has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University. Anna is a passionate advocate who in her free time loves to garden, cook, sing, read, create art, and be with loved ones.
