Angela F. Williams is President and CEO of United Way Worldwide – the first Black woman to lead America’s favorite charity. Angela oversees United Way Worldwide’s global network serving 48 million people across 37 countries each year and brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and corporate sectors with her.

As CEO, Angela has built a new vision for this 135-year organization that is focused on building equitable solutions from the ground-up. She is refocusing the United Way network on leveraging the power of local communities: understanding unique needs, reflecting the people served by the network, and investing locally for the long-term. As she says, these things may seem basic – but they are radical in practice.

Before joining United Way, Angela served as president and CEO of Easterseals; the executive vice president, general counsel, and chief administration officer at the YMCA of the USA; inter-faith liaison for the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund; special counsel on criminal law for Sen. Edward M. Kennedy on the Senate Judiciary Committee staff; prosecutor on the DOJ Civil Rights Division’s National Church Arson Task Force; and an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Williams also served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) for more than six years and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University. She resides in Chicago with her husband, the Reverend Roderick Williams, and is a volunteer pastor at Chicago Apostolic Center.
